Helen Keller was once asked, “Is there anything worse than being blind?” She replied, “Yes. The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight, but no vision”.

Notes on Blindness

For this project, and maybe a more extensive series, I’ve focussed my attention on the subject of sight-loss. What is it like to suffer sight lost, what are the thoughts of someone who sees their lives transforming before them, from a sighted person to a life without sight?

Also, how does one, born without sight, cope or reconcile the fact that they will never be able to see? Within this project, I will explore some of the more commonly held perceived notions by sighted people; discuss the feelings, the fears and the anxieties of this community, hoping to establish a clearer understanding of their lives and experiences.

These questions raise the importance of representation through photography and how this can be executed or fulfilled.
