MY FRIDAY PHOTO STORIES....Pt 1

I've thousands of photographs from my travels around the world working as a photojournalist, so I thought I'd share some of my more interesting assignments and images with you all, once a week, every Friday if possible .

I took this photograph in Baghdad, Iraq in 2002. I was sent by my picture editor at the Daily Mirror newspaper, this just before the 2nd invasion, along with my colleague, reporter Chris Hughes, to try to meet and interview Saddam Hussein, we were their to talk about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, an obviously impossible task.

But we did manage to photograph and interview his No.2 at the time Tariq Aziz with the help of the then British MP George Galloway.

We stayed for 3 weeks in Iraq, under the guidance of the Iraqi government, we managed to get one of the last planes out of Baghdad before the second invasion by the American & British Troops.

I remember watching helplessly at my camera equipment bags and luggage sitting on the runway tarmac as our small commuter light aircraft's doors were being shut ready for take off. Then seeing some kind soul picking them up and hurriedly throw them into the small luggage compartment under the plane.

This image was taken during a tour of the aerial bomb damage by US aircraft during the first gulf war. This man had lost his whole family, his wife, children and his parents in this bombing raid. I took this picture on 12mm Nikkor lens on a Nikon D1 digital camera.
