Taking the Leap: Why I’m Launching the PhotoEast Magazine.

I’ve always loved magazines. Not just flipping through them, but truly loving them—the weight of the paper, the smell of fresh print, the way a single cover image can grab you and pull you into a whole new world. Photography magazines, in particular, have been a lifelong obsession.

A well-designed magazine is a work of art in itself, and nobody does it quite like the Americans. From the 1970s to today, their bold, imaginative designs have shaped the way we see and experience visual storytelling. But let’s be honest—print isn’t what it used to be. The golden era of magazines may have passed, and while digital editions have their own magic, there’s something irreplaceable about holding a beautifully crafted publication in your hands.

So, I’ve decided to stop just loving magazines and start making one.

Yes, it’s a massive, nerve-wracking, slightly terrifying leap, but here I am—putting my money where my mouth is and launching PhotoEast.

This new magazine will be a celebration of photography, a quarterly publication—both digital and in a beautifully limited print edition—dedicated to showcasing the incredible talent in the East of England. Too often, this region is overlooked in the wider photography world, and I want to change that.

I’m not doing this alone. I’ve teamed up with an incredible designer, Deb Murray, whose passion for magazine design matches my own. Together, with a small but dedicated team, we’re bringing this vision to life. And trust me, we have some truly exciting ideas in the works.

But this isn’t just about making another photography magazine—it’s about creating a platform that truly celebrates and supports photographers at all levels. We want to uncover fresh voices, highlight unseen talent, and give photographers from every discipline the recognition they deserve. Whether you’re an emerging artist, an established professional, or simply someone who loves powerful imagery, PhotoEast will be a place where your work is seen, your stories are told, and your passion is shared.

But here’s the thing—PhotoEast isn’t just my journey. It’s an open invitation.

If you love photography, magazines, or the thrill of building something new, I’d love for you to be part of this adventure. Whether as a contributor, a collaborator, or an engaged reader, there’s a place for you here.

So, if this resonates with you, let’s talk. Because PhotoEast is more than a magazine—it’s a movement. And I’d love for you to be part of it.
